NYC recognizes ten centennial small businesses for their contributions to local communities

Small Business Services Commissioner Gregg Bishop, and Council Member Mark Gjonaj recognized, during an inaugural event, ten centennial small businesses across the five boroughs and their contributions to local communities, on February 27, 2020 in Manhattan.

The five NYC Chambers of Commerce and the Jamaica Center Business Improvement District nominated within their boroughs businesses whose original opening dates span from 1878 to 1920.

Business owners were honored with mayoral certificates of recognition, free advertising on the digital LinkNYC kiosks, a social media campaign and a one-year complimentary membership to NYC & Company.

Sahadi’s, 122 years, Brooklyn: Christine Whelan

Deno’s Wonder Wheel, 100 years, Brooklyn: Dennis Vourderis

Holtermann’s Bakery, 142 years, Staten Island: Jill Holtermann

Supreme Chocolatier, 109 years, Staten Island: Mike Katsoris

Russ & Daughters, 106 years, Manhattan: Niki Russ Federman

Teitel Brothers, 105 years, Bronx: Eddie Teitel

Among the ten centennial businesses honored, women were the only minority group represented.
