Actress S. Epatha Merkerson honored at Mayor Bill de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray’s Black History Month Celebration

Mayor Bill de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray honored actress S. Epatha Merkerson during their annual Black History Month Celebration held on February 25, 2020 at the Museum of Natural History in Manhattan.

S. Epatha Merkerson was born in Michigan and moved to New York in the late 70s. She started her career in 1986 and received many awards, including an Emmy, a Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, four NAACP Image Awards, and two Obies.

She also played Lieutenant Anita Van Buren in the Law & Order TV series for 17 consecutive seasons, a total of 395 episodes.
