Brooklyn NAACP hosts Community Conversations on Education

The Brooklyn Branch of the NAACP hosted the first of the 21st Century Education for All: Fireside Chat Series on February 27, 2020 at the Brownsville Community Culinary Center.

The fireside chat, moderated by Tracy L. Gray, included the Brooklyn NAACP president L. Joy Williams, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, NYC Council Member Robert Cornegy Jr., Superintendant Conmunity School District 23 Dr. Miatheresa Pate, NYC Deputy Chancellor Adrienne Austin and Rajendra Maharaj, NAACP Brooklyn Branch.

The panelists addressed family engagement, health, wellness and student voice.

The series, sponsored by Sankofa Global Project and Con Edison, will take place over several months and help schools, educators, students, families, and community leaders to connect with and inspire learners. The Central Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation and EM Arts are also partners in the series.

The Fireside Chat Series topics will include:

Examine the history of Education in New York City
Elevate the Intersections of family, culture, and community in schools
Evaluate Community Partnerships in Education
Proactive, interdisciplinary & project-based workshops
Civic Engagement – Participatory Democracy
Disrupting the Ableism Narrative in Education
The role of HBCU’s and the NAACP in Education
