Three young people killed, civilians and journalists manhandled by Police during protests in Senegal

Three young people shot dead, civilians and journalists manhandled by the police are the results of the 8th day of demonstrations following the announcement by President Macky Sall on February 3, 2024, of the repeal of the decree convening the electoral body.

Alpha Tounkara, a geography student in Saint Louis, Landing Camara, a high school student in Ziguinchor, and Modou Gueye, an orphan and street vendor in Dakar, were shot and killed in cold blood during demonstrations. The Senegalese people point the finger at the police, also seen on video beating a protester and a disabled man for waving the Senegalese flag.

Among the journalists attacked by the police was Seneweb journalist Absa Hann.

The campaign of terror initiated by Macky Sall since 2021 is supposed to keep the Senegalese people immobile and mute in the face of the numerous injustices perpetrated by Macky Sall’s government.

But despite the rising number of deaths, tear gas, beatings and arbitrary arrests, the Senegalese remain motivated and continue to fight for Macky Sall to respect the electoral calendar and hold elections on February 25, 2024.
