Nigerian Lawyers Association awards human rights activists

The Nigerian Lawyers Association hosted its 2012 Awards dinner on Oct. 13, 2012 at the Broad Street Ballroom in Manhattan.

Human rights lawyer Hauwa Ibrahim accepted the 2012 Merit Award while the 2012 Law and Justice Award went to human rights activist Femi Falana.

Hauwa was honored for her devotion to women rights in Nigeria and Falana for his commitment to provide individuals an access to justice when their rights are infringed upon.

The organization also presented scholarship awards to Obiageli Owu, Celestina Ike and Alpheus Anayo Mbah.

The awards ceremony, hosted by Lillian Ajayi and William Enobakhare, featured a performance by the Fusha Dance Company and a keynote address by George Etomi of the Nigerian Bar Association.
