Conakry, Guinea (PANA) – About 200 schools in Guinea will be connected to the Internet in 2015, Moustapha Mamy Diaby, managing director of the Regulation Authority for Posts and Telecommunications (ARTP) said at a news conference last week.
The capital Conakry, with its five communes, will be part of the project initiated by president Alpha Condé for 33 schools.
The project will also benefit schools in each of the six administrative regions where the installation of computers will be done on the basis of the size of each locality.
President Condé recently said that he was committed to establishing quality education and introducing ICTs, underlining that he was considering setting up and equipping 200 cyber centres in secondary and professional schools.
“The need to give priority to ICTs in education is no longer debatable because almost everywhere in the world, it is a well-known fact that it is indispensable,” he said, adding that most countries, under their public policies, were considering introducing ICTs in their education systems.
Mr. Diaby said that several surveys showed that the ICTs were available in active institutions and assist in teaching and learning.
