On July 28, 2013, hundreds of members of the Murid brotherhood marched in the streets of Harlem in celebration of Shaykh Ahmadu Bamba Day, one of the most important days of the 25th annual cultural weeks.

Dressed in white, the disciples of Senegalese Muslim leader Shaykh Ahmadou Bamba, founder of the Murid brotherhood, were lead by his grandson Shaykh Mame Mor MBacke along with several Muslim and political leaders.

Shaykh Mame Mor MBacke took the challenge to continue the work his late father Shaykh Murtada MBacke started more than a decade ago, which is to spread Shaykh Ahmadou Bamba’s legacy and a peaceful message of Islam.

The celebration started in the morning in Harlem, and continued with a session at the United Nations where H.E. Abdou Salam Diallo, permanent representative of Senegal to the United Nations was honored.

Shaykh Ahmadu Bamba Day also celebrated in Washington DC, is hosted every year in New York City by the Murid Islamic Community in America, Inc.
