In a press release issued late on March 7, 2024, the Constitutional Council stated that the presidential elections will take place on March 24 and not on March 31, as previously decided during its session on March 6, 2024.
Prompted by the candidates to “address the inertia of the administration,” which seemed to struggle to choose a date, the Constitutional Council attempted to fill the void by proposing March 31.
The date change occurred following a notification received on March 7 regarding Decrees No. 2024-690 and 2024-691 from President Macky Sall, convening the electoral body and setting the date for the presidential elections on March 24.
