South African sprinter Wayde van Niekerk wins gold and breaks world record in 400m

South African track & field sprinter Wayde van Niekerk won the Gold Medal in the 400m at the Rio Olympics with a World Record time of 43.03s, breaking Michael Johnson’s world record from the 1999 World Championships in Athletics in Spain.

Wayde van Niekerk became the first man to win the Olympic 400 metres from Lane 8 since 1924.

His coach is a 74-year-old woman named Ans Botha.
