On September 18, 2018, the NYC Commission on Human Rights held in Manhattan a forum to build coalition among African immigrant, African American, Afro-Caribbean, and Afro-Latinx communities, and other self-identified Black communities and inform them of their rights against discrimination and harassment.

Commissioner Carmelyn P. Malalis attended the forum that included breakout sessions and a panel discussion with Sandra Appiah, Paula T. Edgar, Joseph Garba, Patrick Jenkins, and Brittney Saunders-Jade.
