The New York Association of Black Journalists hosted its 24th annual Scholarship and Awards Banquet on May 15, 2012 in Manhattan and recognized the contributions of several journalists, including “Like It Is” TV show host Gil Noble, who died in April.

At the banquet held in the Malcolm X & Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center in Washington Heights, Lisa Noble, the late TV host’s daughter, accepted the special tribute. She also thanked the NYABJ and the audience for their love for her father.

During the event, which was hosted by WNBC TV’s Pat Battle and Shannon Lanier of Black Enterprise, more than 40 journalists from different media outlets such as The Grio, Essence Magazine, and the Amsterdam News were honored.

Among the other awardees was diversity advocate Robert Naylor, who received the Lifetime Achievement Awards for helping minority journalists break into the news industry.

R&B star Xavier Lewis and Jonathan Gilbert entertained the crowd, and high school seniors Felicia Romain and Annick Laurent were presented with NYABJ Scholarships.
