McDonald’s honors New York Black Media Legends

As of a tradition that started 11 years ago, the McDonald’s New York Tri-State area kicked off Black History Month on February 1, 2013 at the Plaza Hotel with the Faces of Black History Awards ceremony.

The 2013 honorees, Black Media Legends who have impacted the black community though their achievements and positive examples, include DJ Clue – Power 105, Jay Dow – WPIX-TV/PIX11, Edward Harris – WNYW/WWOR, Don Lemon – CNN, Deon Levingston – WBLS/WLIB, Errol Louis – NY1, J.L. Mitchell – WNYW-TV, Robert F. Moore – New York Daily News, Fatiyn Muhammed – WBLS, John Noel – WNBC, Joy-Ann Reid – theGrio.com/MSNBC, Sandra Rice – Emma Bowen Foundation, Troy Roberts – CBS News, Sue Simmons – WNBC, Walter Smith – New York Beacon & Philadelphia Observer, Pat Stevenson – Harlem News, Saundra Thomas – WABC-TV, and Earl VanDyke Toliver – WNYW Fox 5.

Brenda Blackmon, who co-hosted the ceremony with Mike Woods and Elise Finch, received as a surprise – the McDonald’s Harold Dow Lifetime Achievement Award.

A 2013 Faces of Black History poster, unveiled at the ceremony, will be given away this month at McDonald’s restaurants throughout the tri-State area.
