Mauritius: Former PM granted bail over money laundering charges

Port-Louis, Mauritius (PANA) – Former Mauritian Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam, who is facing two charges of complicity to commit a crime and money laundering, was granted bail Saturday evening by a Court in Port-Louis.

Ramgoolam was arrested Friday afternoon by Police who searched his two residences before interrogating him overnight.

The Police also seized two bags and two coffers in one of the residences in which a certain amount of foreign currency was found.

The Former Prime Minister was “freed” after paying two amounts of 200,000 rupees (about US$6,650) each and signed a debt recognition worth one million rupees (about US$33,350) each.
