Joyce McMillan discusses 24-year-old mother Dejhanay Jarrell and Black motherhood in New York City

This week on the Africa in Harlem video podcast, parent advocate Joyce McMillan discusses the imperfections of the system that might have led to the tragedy we saw on June 12, 2021 when 24-year-old mother Dejhanay Jarrell threw her month-old baby girl and two-year-old boy out of the window of her second-floor apartment before jumping herself.

Joyce McMillan is the founder of JMacForFamilies, a Harlem-based nonprofit organization trying to redefine “child welfare.”
