Former Nigerian Vice President, Mike Akhigbe, dies at 68

Lagos, Nigeria – Nigeria’s former military Vice President Mike Akhigbe died on Monday at the age of 68, the local media reported Tuesday.

The report said Akhigbe, a retired Nigerian Navy Vice Admiral, died in a New York hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for cancer.

He capped a long military and political career, during which he served as the military Governor of Ondo and Lagos states in the country’s South-west and Chief of Naval Staff, with a stint as Vice President during the regime of military President Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar.
