Earl Nash’s family statement on Mamadou Diallo’s case

We the family of Earl Nash remain deeply saddened by the events that transpired on May 30, 2016. To know that Earl was part of this tragedy is truly devastating to us all. The Earl Nash shown in the hallway of 1240 Washington Ave was not the man that we knew and loved.

The oldest of five children, Earl excelled in sports and academics and was the first in our family to attend college at Howard University. While at Howard, Earl discovered his love of acting and soon landed numerous roles in television, commercial and music videos. Unfortunately his college days were cut short when Earl was compelled to return home in order to care for his dying mother and four younger sisters.

Shortly after his mother’s death in 1995, Earl suffered a mental breakdown and was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Because of the lack of mental health resources available to Earl, he began to self-medicate and found himself in and out of the Criminal Justice system. For the past two decades, Earl never received the Mental Health treatment that he so desperately needed and his life began to spiral out of control.

We truly believe that both the Nash and the Diallo family have suffered a great deal of pain as a result of May 30, 2016.

As a family we pray that Mrs. Diallo and family may recover from the unfortunate trauma they’ve experienced. While we cannot undue the damage that was done that evening, we hope to bring some closure not only to our family but to the Diallo family as well. As such, we wholeheartedly recommend that District Attorney Clark dismiss all charges against Mamadou Diallo.
