New York, US (PANA) – African leaders who addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York called for the reform of the UN Security Council.

Angola, Cape Verde and Lesotho said the reforms were necessary to meet up with present realities.

The Vice-President of Angola, Manuel Domingos Vicente, said the UN Security Council reforms should ensure that African countries had permanent seats on the Council.

He noted that this year’s General Debate at the General Assembly came as the UN marked its 70th anniversary and should provide an additional incentive to accelerate reforms aimed at revitalizing the UN system.
