African immigrant New Yorkers said their final goodbye to community activist Khady Diaby after Jummah and the two-Rakat-prayer led by Imam Konate on January 20, 2022, at Masjid Aqsa in Harlem.

The Consul of Ivory Coast, Mrs. Marie Aboui, attended the funeral on behalf of Consul General Inza Camara. Imam Sheikh Musa Drammeh represented Mayor Eric Adams.

Khady Diaby’s death shocked many, but Diaby had been discreetly battling bone cancer for a year. Her sudden death reminds us not to take anyone or anything for granted because everything, including life, is temporary. As the Quran states: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un”, meaning “Verily we belong to Allah, and truly to Him shall we return.”

Her husband, Ousmane Diaby, who thanked everyone for their support, will take her body back home to Ivory Coast, where she is originally from, on Sunday, January 22, 2023.
