Zambia: Zambia gets first female VP

Lusaka, Zambia (PANA) – Zambia’s new President Edgar Lungu has appointed a female Vice-President, Inonge Wina, who until recently was the gender minister.

Wina, who is Zambia’s first female VP, is also the chairperson of the ruling Patriotic Front party.

Lungu, who dissolved the cabinet on Sunday soon after he was inaugurated, announced part of his cabinet on Monday at the State House here, and said he would announce his full cabinet after returning from the African Union (AU) summit.

From the six cabinet ministers appointed on Monday, five retained their portfolios and they are Ministers of Finance Alexander Chikwanda, of Foreign Affairs Harry Kalaba, of Health Joseph Kasonde and of Tourism Minister Jean Kapata.

Davies Mwila was appointed Home Affairs Minister, taking over from Ngosa Simbyakulu who was retained in the cabinet but has now moved to Justice Ministry.

President Lungu has fired Provincial Minister of Southern Province Daniel Munkombwe, who endorsed and campaigned in the just ended elections for opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema of the United Party for National Development . He has replaced him with Nathiel Mubukwanu.
