Participants in the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders met with NYC International Affairs Commissioner Penny Abeywardena and Ambassador Annick Josiane Capet-Bakou, Consul General of Côte d’Ivoire in New York City on July 24, 2018 at Wagner College on Staten Island.

“The Mayor’s Office for International Affairs is honored to welcome Ambassador Capet-Bakou at Wagner College and introduce the Mandela Washington Fellows to our work as part of City Hall in Your Borough on Staten Island,” said Commissioner Penny Abeywardena.

“As the only participants in the fellowship based in New York City, these outstanding young professionals bring us a unique opportunity to discuss common concerns and share how the de Blasio administration is taking action locally to address global challenges. The fellows show enormous promise to make positive change in their communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, and I am grateful to the Young African Leaders Initiative for making our time together possible.”
