Vanessa Gibson was officially sworn in as the 14th Bronx Borough President by Hon. Sallie Manzanet-Daniels at Lehman College for the Performing Arts on March 27, 2022.
Gibson, who started as an intern with late Assemblywoman Aurelia Greene in 2001, is the first Black woman to hold the position.
NY State Attorney General Letitia James, Bronx District attorney Darcel D. Clark, and Mayor of Mount Vernon Shawyn Patterson-Howard, also members of the first club, attended the inauguration along with several other elected officials, including former Bronx Borough President Rubén Diaz Jr., Senator Jamaal Bailey, Congressman Richie Torres, Congressman Adriano Espaillat, NY State Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, US Senate Majority leader Charles Schumer, New York State Comptroller Thomas Dinapoli, NYC Comptroller Brad Lander.
Vanessa Gibson will be running the borough with Deputy President Janet Mejia-Peguero.
The celebration hosted by WPIX 11 News Anchor Ayanna Harry included performances from the Budari Dance Campany, the Celia Cruz School of Music, and Pastor Milton Vann.
