USCIS welcomes 225 New Citizens in Honor of Independence Day

On July 1, 2016, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) New York District Director Phyllis Coven administered the Oath of Allegianceto America’s newest citizens during a special naturalization ceremony at the iconic Stephen A. Schwarzmann Building of the 42nd Street New York Public Library in Manhattan. Michele Mayes, General Counsel, of The New York Public Library also made remarks.

The 225 citizenship candidates originated from the following 55 countries: Albania, Australia, Bahamas, Bangladesh, Belize, Benin, Bolivia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, People’s Republic of China, Colombia, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, France, Gabon, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Guatemala, Guinea, Guyana, Honduras, India, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kosovo, Liberia, Malaysia, Mali, Mexico, Montserrat, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Romania, Senegal, South Africa, Spain, St. Vincent-Grenadines, Thailand, The Gambia, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.

This ceremony was part of USCIS’ annual Independence Day celebration. This year, USCIS celebrates the 240th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and our nation’s birthday, by welcoming more than 7,000 new U.S. citizens in nearly 100 naturalization ceremonies across the country between June 30 and July 4.
