US-Africa Synergy tackles women’s status in African society

US-Africa Synergy hosted a “Women in African Society” symposium examining the reasons behind the ongoing stall for women’s advancement in social and professional arenas on June 26, 2013 at the Nigeria House in Manhattan.

During the conference, which took place after the United Nation’s open forum for the 55th anniversary of the African Union, factors such as gender roles, culture, education were discussed with keynote speakers and panelists who have done work locally and globally, establishing themselves as prominent female leaders in their fields.

Among some of the speakers were former Miss Botswana, Ms. Mpule Kwelagobe, Chief of External Relations for the United Nations Population Fund, H.E. Dr. Josephine Ojiamba, and Mrs. Yetunde A. Odugbesan, CEO and Founder of Yetunde Global Consulting LLC, a management consulting firms specializing in leadership development.

US-Africa Synergy is a not-for-profit organization, which strives to harness resources in order to empower youth and build stronger communities.
