Today, in a 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against the Trump administration’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program holding the decision was arbitrary and capricious.
Trump’s decision to terminate DACA put 700,000 DACA recipients, mainly young people, at risk of being separated from their families, communities and the only place they have ever known as home. According to the New American economy, 28,000 New Yorkers are Dreamers and more than 85,000 are eligible for DACA. Dreamers make up the backbone of this country as nurses, teachers, EMT workers, small business owners, and much more. Moreover, nearly 200,000 Dreamers are serving on front lines in the fight against COVID-19.
