The presidential council of the Libyan national unity government has urged the international community to honour its commitments to Libya, especially medical support to the armed forces fighting the Islamic State group, Daech.

The call was made in a communique issued Thursday following Wednesday’s bloody clashes with Daech in which 14 persons were killed and 95 others injured among the governmental forces.

According to the communiqué, the presidential council is happy with the outcome of the clashes “conducted by our ‘brave soldiers’ to liberate the city of Sirte from the spectre of terrorism”, despite the large number of government troops killed or injured.

The presidential Council is “in permanent contact with friendly nations which should provide care for the injured”.

The Libyan national unity government launched a military operation in May aimed at liberating the city of Sirte from “Daech”, who use the coastal city as a base for launching attacks on other Libyan regions.

While rejecting a foreign military intervention, the presidential council welcomed pledges for help made by western powers.

The assistance, it said, should come as logistic support and training for the security forces, in addition to sharing data and intelligence services.
