Members and supporters of the Tigrayan diaspora across the Tri-State area (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut) held a candlelight vigil for the victims of the war in Tigray in the northern part of Ethiopia, on April 23rd, 2021, at Washington Square Park in Manhattan.

With April recognized as a Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Tigrayan diaspora expressed solidarity with the women of Tigray who are targeted by Ethiopian and Eritrean soldiers.

On November 4, 2020, a conflict sparked between the Ethiopian government and the Tigray Region leading to the killing and displacement of Tigrayan civilians towards Sudan.

Widespread sexual violence towards women, ethnic persecution, human rights violations, property destruction, ethnic profiling, and humanitarian crisis have been reported in the Tigrayan state.
