The New York Urban League announced the release of the 2023 Whitney M. Young, Jr. Scholarship application. One-time scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $10,000 will be awarded to college-bound students starting college in Fall 2023.
Scholarship Application Eligibility Requirements:
New York City Residents – Applicants must live within the 5 Boroughs of NYC;
*Racial/Ethnic Minority Heritage – Applicants must identify as having at minimum 50% African American/Black, Hispanic/Latinx, and/or Native American/Indigenous Heritage;
*Of excellent character and proven leadership ability, with a demonstrated commitment to community service and extra-curricular activities;
*Classification – ONLY Graduating Seniors, Recent High School Graduates, / High School Equivalency Diploma Recipients will be considered;
*Accepted as a full-time and first-term matriculating freshman at an accredited college or university in pursuit of a Baccalaureate or Associate degree for Fall 2023;
Applicants that have previously enrolled and/or taken classes, even if not completed, at any institution of Higher Education are ineligible for this scholarship award – this does not apply to Dual Enrollment Credits reflected on High School Transcripts.
The Scholarship Application window closes Saturday, March 11, 2023, @ 11:59 EST. Late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered. Candidates will be contacted by April 19, 2023, regarding the status of their scholarship application.
