Cape Town, South Africa (PANA) – The police have confirmed that the girlfriend of leading South African rapper Flabba is in custody in connection with his death in the early hours of Monday.

They believe the singer and his girlfriend were involved in a domestic dispute in Alexandra outside Johannesburg when he was fatally stabbed. The suspect cannot be named until she appears in court.

The 38-year-old was one of the founding members of Skwatta Kamp which revolutionised the local music industry with their widely-acclaimed 1997 release Washumkhukhu.

His debut solo album Nkuli vs Flabba earned him a South African Music Award for Best Rap Album in 2007.

Flabba was arrested and charged with assault following a nightclub brawl in 2005.

Messages from friends and family continue to pour in for the fallen star.

Fellow rapper Sean Pages described him as “an inspiration and a big brother”.

“Besides being a legend we’ve lost a great human being. I regard him as a pioneer,” Pages said.
