Dakar, Senegal (PANA) – The Senegalese Minister of Public Service, Social Dialogue and Professional Organizations, Mansour Sy, said Tuesday that physical and biometric auditing of the public service has revealed the existence of 1,169 “ghost workers” for whom salaries totalling 5.67 billion CFAF were paid out in 2013.

Speaking to the press at the end of a meeting that followed the physical and biometric audit of the public workers, presided by Prime Minister, Mrs. Aminata Touré, the minister said an investigation has been ordered to identify those who received the ghost workers’ salaries.

“Inspectors will commence investigations to unmask those who received the salaries. We will refer them to the public prosecutor for legal action,” added Sy.

The audit also shows that there are 127,130 civil servants in Senegal.

Sy said “We plan to include the military and para-military personnel in the public service register,” adding “‘now we know the strength of our civil service that will enable to make our public service more efficient.”
