New York State Senator Bill Perkins partnered with Harlem’s Muslim leaders to host 5th annual Eid Celebration on August 20, 2012 at the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office Plaza.
The celebration, marking the end of Ramadan, included Quran recitations, a sitar performance, dinner and spoken word performances by several artists including Yusef Salaam, who was wrongly convicted with four other teenagers for the beating and rape of a female jogger in Central Park 18 years ago.
The event was attended by the president of the Senegalese Association of America, Pape Dramé, City Council member Robert Jackson and many members of the community.
