Scott Stringer honors trailblazers at Black History Month event

New City Comptroller Scott Stringer hosted a Black History Month event honoring a trailblazer from each borough on February 24, 2014, at Long Island University in Brooklyn.

Honorees included:
– Joseph Thompson, Bronx resident and president of the 49th Precinct Community Council.
– Brooklynite Hon. Una S.T. Clarke, first Caribbean-born woman elected New York City council member.
– Rosemonde Pierre-Louis, former Manhattan Deputy Borough President and current Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office to Combat Domestic Violence.
– Erica Ford, activist and founder of Love Ignites Freedom through Education Camp in Queens.
– Rev. Dr. Demetrius Carolina, Sr., Staten Island resident and senior pastor at First Central Baptist Church.

Among the elected officials who attended the award ceremony featured congresswoman Yvette Clarke, public advocate Laetitia James and council member Laurie Cumbo.
