Members of the Senegalese Diaspora will hold another rally at the US Immigration Court on Varick Street on May 11, 2021 to show support to political activist Ousmane Tounkara scheduled for a hearing at 1 p.m.
Political activist Ousmane Tounkara was arrested by immigration following an FBI inquiry on March 9, 2021.
He now faces a risk of deportation to Senegal where he fears retribution from the government for his political beliefs.
A support committee advocating for his release, has gathered more than 1,500 letters of support in the hope of seeing him return to his family during this holy month of Ramadan.
“At the last rally, people came from Miami, Kentucky, Cincinnatti, Atlanta, Washington DC and Maryland, said committee member Mame Thierno Ndiaye. “It is important for people to come out Tuesday in even larger numbers before 11:30 a.m. We expect more supporters from other states, Senegal and Europe.”
A video of support from Senegalese citizens from home and the Diaspora was also recorded.
