On April 4, 2024, Schools Chancellor David C. Banks announced that NYC Public Schools’ newly revamped Office of New School Development and Design will inaugurate nine new schools for the upcoming academic year. This initiative reflects Chancellor Banks’ ongoing commitment to fulfilling the administration’s pledge to enhance access to accelerated schools and expand elementary and high school capacities in neighborhoods facing school overcrowding.

“Every child deserves a high-quality education that equips them to thrive in our evolving world,” stated Chancellor David C. Banks. “We are transforming the student experience through innovative school models, a citywide endeavor made possible through mayoral accountability.”

The Office of New School Development and Design is tasked with collaborating with district and school leaders, families, communities, and partner organizations to design innovative learning environments tailored to meet current student needs.
