Lagos, Nigeria- Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Sanusi Lamido has been named by the Emerging Markets Magazine as the Central Bank Governor of the Year for sub-Saharan Africa.

The local media reported Monday that the CBN Governor received the award over the weekend in Washington, DC, United States, for the third time in four years.

Magazine Managing Director John Orchard said the CBN Governor was honoured because of his efforts at driving down inflation from double digit in 2009 to about 8% currently.

He noted that Sanusi had consistently pursued and successfully maintained macroeconomic stability, despite the challenges confronting the Nigerian economy.

Commenting on the award, Sanusi said the achievements recorded could not have been realized without the efforts and support of the Nigerian Government and the 6,000 workers of the bank.
