The Nigerian Army Friday began a three-day training exercise, code named “Exercise crocodile smile”, aimed at preparing its troops for engagement in amphibious and internal security operations in Riverine environment against Niger Delta militants.
The exercise is coming as the leadership of the Nigerian military vowed it is “ever ready” for a fight against Niger Delta militants in case the ongoing third party dialogue with them fails.
The exercise will also prepare the troops for combating criminal activities like kidnapping, militancy and piracy and other forms of criminal activities.
Nigerian Army spokesman, Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman, is advising the general public not to panic on the sight of unusual movement of large number of troops, heavy military weapons and equipment in their areas.
