Abuja, Nigeria (PANA) – The Nigerian Federal Government protested last week against “the ungodly treatment” of Nigerians in many countries of the world over the recent outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the country.

In a statement released in Abuja, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aminu Wali, said: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria wishes to bring to the attention of all Nigerians that as a result of the outbreak of Ebola cases in Nigeria following the visit of a Liberian-American, the late Mr. Patrick Sawyer, many countries have introduced stringent measures to stop the spread of the disease to their countries, including Nigeria, and the quarantine of passengers from affected countries for up to 21-40 days.”

The minister said it was therefore advisable for Nigerians planning to travel abroad to beware of the measures introduced by various countries around the globe to contain the spread of Ebola virus in order to avoid any embarrassment.

Mr Wali advised Nigerians to check on the websites of the embassies and consulates of the countries they were visiting for update travel information before embarking on their journey.

Nigeria has recorded 8 deaths from Ebola but has largely contained the spread of the deadly disease that has killed some 2,500 people in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
