One year to the day, on the red steps of Times Square, Black women activists in New York City demanded justice for Breonna Taylor who was killed by police while asleep in her Kentucky apartment on March 13, 2020.

Police officers, who were looking for her ex, broke down the door to the apartment where she was sleeping with her boyfriend.

As the police did not announce themselves, her boyfriend fired, thinking they were the victims of a burglary. Police responded with several shots that struck and killed Breonna Taylor.

None of the police officers involved has been charged in the death of Breonna Taylor. One of the officers, Brett Hankison, was charged with wanton endangerment for firing into Taylor’s white neighbors’ apartment.
