Incoming International Criminal Court Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda was in New York on June 4, 2012 for a daylong stopover on her way to Oslo.

While in New York, Bensouda gave an address at “The Incidence of the Female Child Soldier and the ICC.” The conference, presented by the Eng Aja Eze Foundation to mark the commemoration of the International Day of the African Child, was held at the African Union headquarters in Manhattan.

Later that day, Bensouda headed to a reception hosted at the German House in honor of the outgoing International Criminal Court prosecutor, Luis Moreno-Ocampo, who took office in 2003. During the reception, Bensouda, who served as deputy prosecutor under Moreno-Ocampo, gave a speech and expressed her gratitude toward her former boss for the work he accomplished. She also reinforced her commitment to work best of her ability in her new position.

Bensouda, chosen in December 2011 to succeed Moreno-Ocampo, will be taking office on June 16, 2012.
