Muslim Community Network Launches Report on Hate Crime Prevention

On Monday, July 18, 2022, Muslim Community Network launched and distributed its latest report on Hate Crime Prevention at New York City Hall.

The report is an analysis of Hate Crime Incidents experienced by the NYC Muslim population between 2019 and 2022. Over 200 Muslims were surveyed, and the survey was offered in Arabic and English at Mosques, schools, social media, and community centers. The surveys were collected alongside MCN’s community safety training sessions.

2022 Report Highlights:
76% of Muslims surveyed in NYC have witnessed a hate crime
49% have been victims of a hate crime
43.5% of School Age Muslim Youth Between the Ages of 10-18 Years old experienced or witnessed a hate crime in 2019
26.7% of Black Muslims and 31.9 % of Asian Muslims expressed experiencing or witnessing a hate crime in the first half of 2022.
47% of those that were surveyed recommended more religious diversity education at schools, places of employment, and other public and private institutions.

MCN has conducted a total of 7 community safety training between March 2022 and June 2022 to address hate crimes and provide tools and mechanisms for prevention.
