William Kikanae Ole Pere, Maasai community leader and Olivia Palermo, newly-appointed ambassador of the Maasai project for the Pikolinos company, presented the summer 2012 Massai Collections by Pikolinos on May 30, 2012 at Meet The Apartment in Manhattan.

Pikolinos, the Spanish footwear company, is collaborating with the Maasai tribe in Kenya to produce a footwear line inspired by their African patterns. The collection is handcrafted by Maasai women, who embroider leather pieces sent by the company to Kenya. According to Pikolinos, more than 1.000 women have benefited from this project that has grown gradually since its pilot-test in the spring of 2010.
