Nairobi, Kenya (PANA) – Scores of students suffered injuries after a stampede at the Strathmore Business School in Nairobi, ensued during a mock terrorism drill at campus.

The University was conducting a security drill to test the operational readiness of its key service providers when a stampede ensued.

Kenya Red Cross Society rushed to the scene and rushed at least four students to the hospital.

The University stationed gunmen at various locations of the campus who shot in the air.

Students responded to the sporadic shooting at midday by immediately abandoning lectures. Some jumped from the second floor of the lecture halls. Others rushed to the roof-top.

There were spent bullet cartridges at the University after the drill.

Police said the mock security drill was meant to gauge the disaster preparedness of the University student community.

“The students and staff were evacuated by security marshals from all the buildings,” the administration said.

Several Universities have been conducting security drills since the Garissa University terror attack which left 148 people dead.
