Nairobi, Kenya (PANA) – Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Monday for an international conference geared towards establishing a global fund to support health programmes for women and children.

The conference, which will also be attended by UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, is set to launch the Global Financing Facility for ‘Every Woman and Every Child’.

The new initiative is the result of technical work carried out by the World Health Organisation for a new fund, whose goal is to support health programmes for women and children.

President Kenyatta’s presence at the conference is significant because Kenya has been a forerunner in the new approach to financing women and children’s health issues through pooling of resources from different sectors.
