The Diomaye-Sonko wave swept across Senegal and among the Senegalese diaspora, leaving far behind the other competitors, including Amadou Ba, the ruling party candidate.
On March 24, in New York, at the three polling centers in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, Bassirou Diomaye Faye came out on top with a comfortable lead.
Manhattan: Bassirou Diomaye Faye: 1781 – Amadou Ba: 239
Bronx: Bassirou Diomaye Faye: 504 – Amadou Ba: 71
Brooklyn: Bassirou Diomaye Faye: 199 – Amadou Ba: 147
The party, considered by some as inexperienced and dangerous, is the one that most Senegalese citizens have chosen to succeed Benno Bokk Yakar, the ruling coalition since 2012, but known for its numerous corruption scandals and manipulation of justice.
On the day of the presidential elections, Senegalese people voted massively for a total change in the country’s governance. They want a leader who will prioritize the interests of the Senegalese people and the country over those of foreign countries and multinationals.
