Immigration: Nearly 30,000 DACA recipients are frontline health care workers in the fight against COVID-19, but Trump wants them deported, says NYIC

“If SCOTUS allows President Trump’s termination of DACA to go forward, Dreamers will lose their authorization to work and could be deported to countries they barely remember during a pandemic when “sheltering in place” and standing united is vital to win the fight against a global pandemic,” said the New York Immigration Coalition, an organization advocating for the rights of immigrant New Yorkers.

The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to rule on President Trump’s termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), that could leave more than 800,000 DACA recipients, known as Dreamers, at risk of being separated from their families, communities and the only place they have ever known as home.

“DACA recipients make up the backbone of this country as nurses, teachers, EMT workers, small business owners, and much more,” said NYIC. “Moreover, nearly 30,000 Dreamers are serving as frontline health care workers in the fight against COVID-19.”
