Half of a Yellow Sun premieres at the New York African Film Festival

Half of a Yellow Sun, the adaptation of Chimamanda NGozie Adichie’s award winning novel starring Thandie Newton, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Anika Noni Rose, premiered on May 9, 2014, during the 21st New York African Film Festival at Lincoln Center.

Anika Noni Rose playing the role of Kainene, a glamorous twin from a wealthy Nigerian family, attended the event with actor OC Ukele and director Biyi Bandele who introduced the film and participated in a Q&A after the sold-out movie.

Half of a Yellow Sun is a romantic drama taking place during Nigeria’s civil war, the Biafran war that lasted three years, from 1967 to 1970.

The screening of Half of a Yellow Sun, scheduled in Nigeria on April 25, 2014, was not authorized by the Nigerian Film Censorship Board.
