Haiti-born Council Member Mathieu Eugene hosted the banner of Haiti to commemorate Haitian Flag day at Brooklyn Borough Hall on May 18, 2012, a week before the beginning of Caribbean month.
Dr. Charles Dessalines, a descendant of freedom fighter Jean-Jacques Dessalines, who defeated Napoleon’s French colonial force and led Haiti to freedom in 1804, was honored by Council member Eugene along with Gil Noble, Elsie Accilien, E-Uneek Kebreau and Detective Joseph Dejoie.
