Harlemites came out on October 25, 2020 to cast their vote on the second day of early voting for the November 3, 2020 presidential election.
While voting at Wadleigh High School was very easy, with no line in sight, casting a vote at PS 175 Henry H. Garnet was a little more challenging with long lines on both entrances.
Khadijah, a first-time voter from Guinea, waited in line at PS 175 Henry H. Garnet on 134th street for more than half-an-hour to be told that her polling site was Wadleigh High School on 114th street.
Far from being discouraged, she jumped into a taxi with her sister to get to her voting site before 4 p.m.
She rushed into Wadleigh High School and came out a few minutes later with a bright smile!
“As a first-time voter, I think the Gen Z especially, has the loudest voices right now and it’s really important for us to make changes,” Khadijah said. “We’re going to be the ones facing the repercussions. If he (Trump) does stay, especially since we would be growing up in that era, I think it would be important for us to make those changes. “
Early voting in New York City will run until November 1, 2020.
