Guinean-American boy vanishes in Harlem

11-year-old Alfa Barrie left his mother’s apartment in the Bronx on Friday, May 12, 2023, with his older sister to go to Democracy Prep Charter School in Harlem like he does every morning, but he never returned home.

The young boy who usually leaves school with his sister decided to stay longer that day.

On Friday afternoon, the family from Guinea, West Africa, waited, but Alpha never made it home.

His mother and siblings, who live in the Bronx, have since been looking for him without success. The family filed a police report on May 13, 2023.

Democracy Prep officials, according to the family, didn’t notice anything unusual. Alpha was let go with other classmates and was last seen wearing a collared shirt and gray uniform in Harlem in front of the Famous Fish Market on 145th Street.

The family is seeking volunteers to help post flyers in Harlem and the Bronx.
