Ghanaian New Yorkers celebrate 66 years of independence with flag-raising ceremony at Bowling Green

On March 6, 2023, Ghana’s Independence Day, the country’s flag was flying high at Bowling Green in lower Manhattan after a flag-raising ceremony.

City officials, including Mayor Eric Adams, joined Ambassador Harold Agyeman, Ghana’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Consul General Kingsley Atta Boafo, and community members.

Ghana gained its independence from the United Kingdom in 1957.
