George Floyd’s family to hire forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden after Hennepin County Medical Examiner found cause of death was not asphyxiation

The legal team representing the family of George Floyd announced in a statement that George Floyd’s family will hire an independent medical examiner to conduct their own autopsy after the Hennepin County Medical Examiner found that Floyd’s cause of death was not asphyxiation, but “combined effects of Mr. Floyd’s being restrained by police, underlying health conditions, and any potential intoxicants in his system.”

The Floyd family team will hire Dr. Michael Baden, a forensic pathologist with expertise in high profile cases, and Dr. Allecia Wilson to conduct the autopsy in the Minneapolis area in the next several days.

We are not surprised, yet we are tragically disappointed in the preliminary autopsy findings released today by the medical examiner,” said civil rights Attorney Ben Crump. “We hope that this does not reflect efforts to create a false narrative for the reason George Floyd died. Attempts to avoid the hard truth will not stand, and on behalf of the family, we are fiercely committed to bringing the truth to light.”

A document shared by CNN shows that former Minneapolis police officer Dereck Chauvin, who pinned down George Floyd’s neck with his knee, was arrested on May 29, 2020 in relation to Floyd’s death. His bail had been set at $500,000.

The family also called for peace in Minnesota and across the county as they bring justice for the murder of George Floyd.
